The holiday region surprises and fascinates in winter

Winter vacation in the Zillertal

If you think that a winter vacation only consists of “waking up, skiing, après ski, and sleeping”, then you are quite mistaken. What do you think about a walk in the moonlight to an alpine hut, a glass of mulled wine, and an exhilarating toboggan ride back down into the valley? Or how about a snowshoe hike to a secluded, sunny hut, where you can let your soul soar in the warmth of the mountain sun?

Did you know that in the Zillertal, you are only a few minutes away from bustling activity if that’s what you would like? Take a pair of binoculars, head out to a side valley, and go on an Alpine safari in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. You will be amazed by how many animals - from chamois to golden eagles - you can observe here.

Recreation opportunities around the Alpenchalet

The term “recreation opportunity” itself is actually nonsense. After all, you are here for your vacation, and since I assume that you have no intention of working, you can look at your entire stay as “recreation”.

Skiing, snowboarding, and après ski

We are the “Mecca” of winter sports, and that is the only explanation that is needed. You simply have to decide if you want to ride directly to the ski area of the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen (the ski bus will take you from the Alpenchalet right to the valley station of the new Möslbahn) or if you want to take your own car to the other ski areas. You will need a multitude of winter vacations to experience even half of the Zillertal’s ski slopes.

For all those who can’t get enough of skiing, the Hintertux Glacier is only a few kilometers (25 km) away. Austria’s year-round skiing area offers the perfect skiing conditions.

Tobogganing

Take one day and enjoy a time-out from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes. Take a 5 minute ride on the ski bus to Gasthof-Hotel Roswitha, and from here, walk with your toboggan to the Brindlingalm, a quiet snack station in an idyllic location with a magnificent view of the 3,000 meter high peaks of the Zillertal’s main ridge. Let the host, Thresal, pamper you with a small treat and mulled wine. Then, you can toboggan down the mountain, but don’t go too fast – give the snow bunnies a chance to get out of the way.

Ski tours and snowshoe hikes

We are located right in the middle of nature. All you have to do is put on your touring skis or snowshoes, head up the mountain behind the house, and set out on your adventure.

Whether horseback riding, cross-country skiing, 40 km of cleared hiking paths, ice stock in Ramsau, paragliding, or hang gliding........there is recreational fun for everyone.
