Summer vacation in the Zillertal

Our region defines the concept of a "summer retreat"!

It is very important to tell you that you don’t need Disney Land for a successful summer vacation. If you are able to walk and if you are successful in making full use of your senses, then you will find fulfillment that can hardly be found anywhere else in the world.

Of course, you have to go about it properly: the winner is not the one who reaches the summit or the hut in the shortest amount of time but the one that pauses and takes it all in. Take a deep breath and smell the aroma of the damp spruce forests, kneel down by the countless water sources in the prehistoric rock, take a taste of the watercress that grows there, and drink the water – this is what the mountain shares with you. Enjoy the feeling of being tired and sweaty and brave the wind, the heat, and the cold. It’s beautiful to feel all of these things and know that you are truly alive. We are a part of nature and once again will return to it.

Recreation opportunities around the Alpenchalet in Summer

Everything your heart desires - leisurely walks, mountain biking, hiking, Nordic walking, mushroom picking and berry picking - you can do all of this directly from Alpenchalet Zillertal. Simply close the door behind you and set off in any direction. But make sure you find your way back again.

The Zillertal doesn't have the reputation of being the most active valley in the world for nothing.

Hiking - over 200 km of marked hiking trails (you can find an interactive hiking map here), mountaineering, climbing, via ferratas and high ropes courses, swimming in swimming pools and mountain lakes, canyoning, paragliding, hang gliding, golfing, horse riding and carriage rides, 4 clay tennis courts, squash, minigolf ...

You can do all these activities after more or less just a short drive. All options are open to you. But please don't forget that it may be more valuable to enjoy beautiful impressions than to see your vacation as a sporting rush.

Winter vacation in the Zillertal

The holiday region surprises and fascinates in winter

If you think that a winter vacation only consists of “waking up, skiing, après ski, and sleeping”, then you are quite mistaken. What do you think about a walk in the moonlight to an alpine hut, a glass of mulled wine, and an exhilarating toboggan ride back down into the valley?

Or how about a snowshoe hike to a secluded, sunny hut, where you can let your soul soar in the warmth of the mountain sun?

Did you know that in the Zillertal, you can escape the hustle and stress within just a few minutes if you want to? Take a pair of binoculars, head out into a side valley, and go on an Alpine safari in the Zillertal Alps Nature Park. You’ll be amazed at how many animals, from chamois to golden eagles, you can observe there.

Recreation opportunities around the Alpenchalet in Winter

The term “recreation opportunity” itself is actually nonsense. After all, you are here for your vacation, and since I assume that you have no intention of working, you can look at your entire stay as “recreation”.

Skiing, snowboarding, and après ski
We are the “Mecca” of winter sports, and that is the only explanation that is needed. You simply have to decide if you want to ride directly to the ski area of the Mayrhofner Bergbahnen (the ski bus will take you from the Alpenchalet right to the valley station of the new Möslbahn) or if you want to take your own car to the other ski areas. You will need a multitude of winter vacations to experience even half of the Zillertal’s ski slopes. For all those who can’t get enough of skiing, the Hintertux Glacier is only a few kilometers (25 km) away. Austria’s year-round skiing area offers the perfect skiing conditions. Here you can find an interactive piste map.

Tobogganing
Take one day and enjoy a time-out from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes. Take a 5 minute ride on the ski bus to Gasthof-Hotel Roswitha, and from here, walk with your toboggan to the Brindlingalm, a quiet snack station in an idyllic location with a magnificent view of the 3,000 meter high peaks of the Zillertal’s main ridge. Let the host, Thresal, pamper you with a small treat and mulled wine. Then, you can toboggan down the mountain, but don’t go too fast – give the snow bunnies a chance to get out of the way.

Ski tours and snowshoe hikes
We are located right in the middle of nature. All you have to do is put on your touring skis or snowshoes, head up the mountain behind the house, and set out on your adventure.

The new Möslbahn
The new Möslbahn (since 2019) is a huge advantage for our guests in many ways. Whereas in the past you had to go to the valley floor to then take the Horberg or Penkenbahn to the ski area, you can now take the ski bus to the valley station of the Möslbahn in just a few minutes and thus directly to the Hippach/Schwendau/Mayrhofen/Tux ski area. You can also buy your ticket for the ski area directly there and, unlike the valley stations in Mayrhofen or Schwendau, there are virtually no waiting times here.

Whether horseback riding, cross-country skiing, 40 km of cleared hiking paths, ice stock in Ramsau, paragliding, or hang gliding - there is recreational fun for everyone.
